Elephant Nature Foundation
Strategic Goals

In order to achieve our Mission, Elephant Nature Foundation has several short- and long-term strategic goals for each of our flagship projects. Among them are the following:

    Elephant Nature Park:
  • Provide a home to rescued elephants, dogs, and cats.
  • Become self-sustaining and provide a demonstrative business model for trekking camps and other elephant tourist attractions.
  • Generate much-needed funds by increasing the number of visitors to the Park, opening a gift shop, and launching a fundraising strategy including an elephant adoption program.
  • Raise the profile of the Park by moving to a key building within Chiang Mai, as well as increasing marketing and media exposure. This will in turn increase awareness of the plight of the Asian elephant.
  • Develop the volunteer program to include activism and advocacy work.
  • Provide an opportunity for Thai people to become regular visitors at the Park and volunteers within the Chiang Mai office.
  • Increase our self-sufficiency by purchasing more land for the purpose of growing crops to feed the herd.
  • Extend the Park to give additional space to the elephants and provide a home to more elephants.
  • Seek feedback and comments from visitors and review the program in accordance with this feedback.

    Jumbo Express:

  • Make and maintain links with hill tribes and provide medicinal and educational assistance for the people and elephants within the tribes.
  • Research, observe, and record the number of elephants in the wild and the number and living conditions of domestic elephants.
  • Document research findings to be used as a reference tool for future visits and to substantiate the need for financial resources.
  • Provide an opportunity for international visitors to assist in Jumbo Express trips.
  • Develop a volunteer program which includes an extended Jumbo Express project.

    Elephant Haven:

  • Provide a safe haven where the Park's elephants are free to roam.
  • Develop an educational visitors program independent of Park visits which also includes vegetation, wildlife, and habitat education.
  • Conserve vital elephant habitat, including registering trees.
  • Facilitate a preliminary de-domestication program.

    Overall Goals:

  • Work without politics and in cooperation with local and international elephant and government organizations to protect elephants and their environment.
  • Attract and develop academic involvement including links with veterinarians and veterinary organizations.
  • Increase the scope of the education programs and the impact they have.
